He won 13 grands prix, but it took him 247 races to do so. After starting his F1 career with Williams, the Scot moved to McLaren, where he had the misfortune to be regarded as the No 2 driver to Mika Hakkinen. Although he finished second to Michael Schumacher in the 2001 world championship, Coulthard scored 65 points while the German racked up 123. After eight years at McLaren, he was signed up by Red Bull Racing — sadly, they were not the team they are now, and Coulthard spent much of the final four years of his career as an also-ran.
