After having been chased by several controversies and losing his job, the alcoholic and ex-junkie Russel Brand has still managed to earn $15 million dollars. He worked on MTV for a time but he was fired for coming to work dressed up like Osama Bin Laden after the September 11 attack at the World Trade Center. His career rose to fame when he presented Big Brother’s Big Mouth beginning from 2004 to 2007. While he was presenting the MTV Video Awards on 2008, Brand regarded George W. Bush as a ‘retarded cowboy’ which led him to receive a number of death threats. In the same year, he made a prank phone call to actor Andrew Sach which is broadcast on Radio 2. Through his Scandalous tour, Brand made a total earning of £1million from comedy but there are claims that the actor earned a staggering £4m from his career as a comedian. Brand has starred on several Hollywood movies including The Tempest starring Helen Mirren and the remake of Arthur where he played the role of a wealthy playboy. He also plays a role in movies like Get Him To The Greek and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He authored a book entitled My Booky Wook which instantly became a bestseller. After the success of his first book, he got a £1.8m two-book deal for Articles of Faith and My Booky Wook 2 with Harper Collins.

Russel Brand married American singer Katy Perry on October 23, 2010 despite the latter’s reputation of being a lothario and sex addict. The wedding cost around £300,000 because of the live performance of Diddy and using real horse, tigers and elephants during the wedding. The guests stayed in 10 luxurious Amani-Khas camp found in Ranthambore National Park which the couple rent for £830-a-night per tent. There was no prenuptial agreement and selling of wedding pictures to magazines and newspapers was strongly opposed by Brand. Brand sold his £2.5m bachelor pad in England and they decided to buy a Los Angeles £2.2m house on December 2009. Prior to their wedding, Perry bought $200,000 (£123,000) ticket to space, equivalent to (£123,000, for Brand’s 35^th birthday. After their 14-month marriage, brand filed a divorce from Katy Perry.
