Whitworth, 39, has worked his way up from selling clothes as a Saturday boy on a market stall to running the fashion chain Republic alongside Carl Brewins (qv).
The Leeds company, with 100 stores and an e-commerce site, claims to be one of the largest multiple-brand denim retailers on the high street.
Last summer (2010), the private equity group TPG bought Republic in a reported £300m deal.Whitworth,who had 23% of the equity at the time, is staying on at the business as its chief executive.
