SP stands for special project and EC stands for Eric Clapton. The design was most closely predicated on the previous Ferrari model 12 BB. Eric Clapton has owned three 12 BBs over the years, so it would make sense to model a custom built Ferrari specifically for Eric Clapton after that vehicle. The car has been described by Ferrari as also having shades of the 458 Italia incorporated into its design.
